Stalin's reply to churchill |
In this speech Stalin put together a response to Churchill's Iron Curtain Speech. Stalin equated Churchill's words with those of Hitler in regards to racial theory, saying that Churchill only calls to the English speaking nations of the world, leaving out the rest of the world. In making such an accusation, Stalin divided the rivalry as between the English speaking nations and the non-English speaking nations. In his response, Stalin seemed intent on making Churchill look like the bad guy, like the instigator, and, in comparing Churchill with Hitler, he hoped to convince the Soviet people that this was the truth.
In his Iron Curtain speech, Churchill had discussed his desire for peace and his thoughts "that a new war is inevitable". In this response, Stalin managed to twist the words of Churchill around to make it look as if Churchill had both the plans and the foundation to initiate another world war, this time against the Soviets.
